Hi. I will be driving a 200 series diesel Landcruiser and am seeking comments on whether it is practical to drive from Arkaroola to Cameron's Corner and then on to
Tibooburra in a day ? Any idea what what the drive time is? I am an experienced outback driver so will not be looking to travel quickly - just at the speed the conditions dictate. It looks to be circa 542kms and I am thinking about 8 to 9 hrs drive. Is this too ambitious?
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve
We are undertaking the same trip in July only in reverse. Yesterday I was only thinking the same thing. How long will it take. The only info I could find was about 12 hours. I will also be towing a small off-road caravan. I am sure someone can set us straight.
Cheers Jim

Jim,
Whilst at Arkaroola in July of 2010, we were talking to a family in a Pajero towing a camper trailer who had come down from
Innamincka in about 10 hours. The worst section was after turning off the Strez Track due to corrugations. Two of their roofrack mounts broke as a result.

Thank you Jon W
We are currently planning on camping at
Cameron Corner or there about's and
Montecollina Bore, to enable us to take in this beautiful part of country.
Cheers Jim

Steve,
In July of 2010, we did
Marree to
Innamincka towing a trailer in a day in about 9 hrs. It is a similar distance. It was a long day however. If you are doing Cameron to Tib in fading daylight, you might have to slow down even more.
So, I would say possible but it may take somewhat more than 9 hours.

I fail to see the logic in going into the outback and then driving all day to meet some deadline. If you do not have the time do not go at all. This journey is best taken over about three days which gives you time to enjoy the experience and our beautiful country.

Thanks
John W. That' s what I thought. It looks to me to be too long. Thanks for your reply.

Did that run a couple of years ago but spent 3 nights on the road because we like to take our time, stop often for photos etc. If you are short of time I think you should allow for a long day or perhaps one night on the road. South from the turrnoff from the
strzelecki Track at Mt Hopeless the track is slow going and fairly winding. Plenty of great scenery though.
Cheers,
Val

Hi, I'm probably going to be doing the same stretch later in June but am planning on spending 2 nights (plus 3rd into
Tibooburra). It's such a lovely area with side trips that I think it is worth spending the time (& hoping to talk my ex MIL from US along - she will love it)

For what its worth we did
Broken Hill to
Tibooburra 4 days ago in the Pajero with a Supreme Classic Van non off roader.350 ks .It took 6hrs ,we got down to 35ks /hr at times and went to 25 PSI in all tyres. Bloody dust !! Cute little park run by a little old lady Sophie she has a fire every night in front of her van .

I would suggest stopping at
Fort Grey. Distance would be less of a push, but also it is a far nicer place to
camp.
