Comment: Simpson Desert French Line

Our first was also a west to east. Purnie - WAA - Lone Gum - Knolls - French - QAA and out. Didn't see a car for the first two days. Just us on our own and the Simpson. Lots of flowers. Gotta go back. Also in August.

That's the same route we took, the WAA line was quiet. But once up onto the French line, it was like a motorway.

From memory I think that we only met two groups on the whole QAA line before Big Red. And that place was crowded though. Even had a bus up the top with a bunch of lookers on. We gave it a miss.

Hate crowds and that is what is so appealing about the deserts.

No need for a chainsaw, as you will pick up enough wood along the way, or bring a bag of wood with you.

There are no wood fires or firewood collection in Witjira National park anyway.

As Jeff said, no need for a chain saw. We also carry two or three bags from home with us.

Any off cuts (no paint, nails or screws) or leftovers go in a pile which I cut up and bag for future trips. I have wood from an old black wattle from our back yard that needs splitting and bagging as well. You can see the white bags on the roof rack. I haven't spent any money on camp fire cooking wood for the last three years. for cooking we only use one bag a week. Especially the black wattle.
