Description

Cycads are ancient cone bearing plants that do not produce flowers. They are very slow growing with palm-like leaves extending from a central trunk. Male and female cones are borne on separate plants.

Uses

Seeds formed in female cones have a high starch content, and were used by indigenous people for food, but only after extensive preparation including washing to leach out dangerous toxins.
