Active Track Log from EOTraveller (iOS) saved 19/02/2019 1:59:38 AM This was an organised tour with Outback Spirit Tours called the Wet Season Spectacular. It is one of the driest wet seasons for many a year according to locals of the area. There is no road access to Faraway Bay except by air or supply barge (2 or 3 times a year). Kandiwal Camp is situated on the Mitchell Plateau, and normally with the wet season, all touring from this camp is done by helicopter as was with this trip due to roads being closed. Kings and Mitchell Falls were still both spectacular to see even without the major flooding flows. Boat ride to the Kings Falls around the coast shows the magnificent rock wall canyons, as well as the flora and fauna of the area. We also had an aboriginal tour guide to help explain rock art and its meanings. At the camp, the tour operators employ the local clan girls and boys to speek about and guide you into the various sacred sites. The girls are also used to help with the catering of tourists and engage into the tourism industry. It was good to see the tour operators explaining how thing are done and teaching them without stress. They were very shy, but also very friendly to talk too and learn a very little bit about their culture.. The community is very small with about 30 people, and with all the mod cons. Because you cannot normally drive there in the wet season or see the top end its glory of flooding waters is why we chose to do this trip. It was very unfortunate that it is the driest in years. A fish trip in the harbour around Fannie Bay was also taken but unable to log due to gear having to be stowed away in locker box. We stayed at the Doubltree Hotel for an extra 3 nights after our trip to view the sights etc that Darwin has to offer. Because this is normally the wet season, many things are shut down till April when the dry season starts. There where not many tourists around Darwin which made entry to many sights that where open easy, as everybody thought the monsoonal rains would hamper them
