Jounama Creek
campground, in
Kosciuszko National Park, is ideal for caravans and offers families a nature escape with boating, fishing and swimming in the warmer months.
Camp area just 500 m off the Snowy Mtns Hwy at the foot of Talbingo Mtn. The creek flows in from the
Bogong Peaks Wilderness so is pristine. A 6 km return walk follows the creek upstream.
Tent, Camper trailer site, Caravan site, Camping beside vehicle. Picnic tables, barbecue facilities,
toilets.
There are no camping fees at this
campground but a $6 booking fee applies. Bookings are required. Book online or call the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757. No park entry fees apply in the Tumut area.
There are no marked sites. Maximum length of stay is 14 days at this
campground and 21 days in this national park. A maximum of 2 sites can be booked in 1 customer name. There is limited mobile reception in this park.
Experienced walkers will enjoy the challenge of Old Mountain road track and those who are keen on mountain biking will be keen to explore cycling routes such as Cumberland Trail.
As the shadows lengthen, gather together for a campfire barbecue of freshly caught fish and settle back to enjoy the sounds of the surrounding bush.
The
campsite and surrounding areas were largely burned out in the 2019/20 fires. The
campsite is slowly recovering but much of the surrounding area was subject to particularly intense heat, making recovery much slower, and with some species, impossible.
Pleasant, flat grassed campsites along Jounama Creek with a choice of shade or sun.
Access from the
Snowy Mountains Highway is 2WD, all weather. You may have to carry snow chains in winter.
