Set beside the
Thomson River about 4km from
Longreach,
Apex Park is a great place to enjoy sunrises, sunsets, fishing, boating or even a paddle in the river. There is a large undercover area with barbecues and picnic tables. This is also the site for the Yellowbelly fishing competition which is held annually the last weekend of August.
There is a
campground that is suitable for the self-sufficient camper, with only a
toilet block facility and potable water available at the
campground and no showers.
The area is large enough for all sizes and types of vehicles, from trailers and caravans to big rigs and 5th wheelers, with plenty of space to manoeuvre. There is a picnic park with
toilets, BBQ’s and picnic tables, a pedestrian
bridge over the
Thomson River and a
boat ramp.
A small fee is payable at the
Longreach Explore Centre (
Visitor Information), 99a Eagle Street
Longreach. There is an honesty box/ticket system located at
Apex Park for those who have arrived out of business hours and are staying overnight only.
A
dump point and potable water is available at the Caravan Day Park on the corner of Kite Street and Landsborough Highway.
The CWA offers how showers for a gold coin donation at their building in QANTAS park.
This is a very popular
camping area at the
old bridge over the river, and if you want to use the showers at Muddy Duck Tourist Park, do the right thing and pay to stay there, stop trying to free load.
