Vaughan Springs, formerly a large gold rush township called ‘
The Junction’, features a mineral water spring which is still available to drink from today. To the north you will find the old Spring Gully
Junction Mine and its an enjoyable walk along the Eureka quartz reef.
Free camping is available at the Upper Terrace
Campground, a short distance from the day-visitor area which is provided by the
Castlemaine Diggings National
Heritage Park. The
camping area is small and rather cramped with only half the sites shaded. There’s only space for a few caravans and a half-dozen tents, so get there early if you want to stay during holiday periods.
The turn-off to the
campground is on Vaughan Springs Rd.
