A very large meandering level grassed open area in the highlands of the Toombullup
State Forest, near Tolmie northeast of
Mansfield near the small Stringybark Creek.
There are 2 tables and BBQs near the
toilet,
well shaded by large Blackwoods and Mountain Ash, with many shaded and secluded bush
camp sites around the edges of the
clearing. Suitable for caravans, camper trailers, campervans and tents. Family Friendly. Pets allowed.
It was here, on the banks of Stringybark Creek in Toombullup
State Forest in 1878 the Kelly Gang members became the most wanted outlaws in Australia after Police Constables Lonigan, Scanlan and Kennedy were shot and killed.
From Benalla take the road to Tatong. Follow the sign to Tolmie. This road becomes gravel as you enter the
State Forest. The Day Visitor Area is down Stringybark Creek Road.
