Pearana
Rockhole is a huge
waterhole found along the Pearana Creek. Sheltered by a small rocky ridge and surrounded by slabs of solid
rock, Pearana
Pool (
Rockhole) is a significant water source located in the Pearana Creek some 40 kilometres south of Woodie Woddie
Mine. The
rock hole is only a kilometre or two east of the main road down to
Mount Hodgson,
Christie Crossing and Balfour Downs.
The pool supports local wildlife and cattle and provides an excellent camping location. The amount of birdlife coming down to drink in the evenings is amazing and the quiet camper will enjoy roos and emus as
well. The breadth of
the pool ensures that this remains a permanent source of water. The creek to the west is broad and sandy and supports ephemeral waterholes and splendid gums. The surrounding countryside is typical with rough, sharp rocks and plenty of spinifex.
I t is recommended that you pick up firewood on the way in as it is scarce around the
rock hole itself.
