This place does not appear on tourist maps, although at least one
Kakadu tour bus visits there for a swim. It is known to locals as ‘Moline’ or ‘Moline
Waterhole’. It is located just outside
Kakadu National Park, just off the
Kakadu Highway on the left, before coming to the
Mary River Roadhouse from
Pine Creek.
The story is that the
waterhole was developed by the Moline Goldmine company as a picnic spot/
swimming hole for staff relaxation. It is a very pleasant and secluded spot, with a very rough road in and no facilities at all for camping. It is less than say 2k from the bitumen
Kakadu Highway – so it’s an easy walk.
