Prisms of rhyolite lava with 4,5 or 6 sides are exposed on both sides of a
gorge with the more rectangular ones on the east side so are shaded in the morning. But those on the west are equally spectacular. It's a 10km flat drive in along a dusty track which would turn boggy after rain. Then a 500m walk. A bit of clearance is all that's needed as is a picnic table at the
carpark. Access via
Yardea Road and then along Organ Pipes Road.
Vehicle entry fee and camping fee is payable for the
Gawler Ranges National Park and must be paid before entry to the park on-line. The park is famous for the magnificent Organ Pipes, formed over 1500 million years ago as a result of volcanic eruptions.
Dogs are not permitted in this Park.
