The
Caiguna Blowhole is located 5 kilometres west of
Caiguna and 10 metres from the Eyre Highway. The
blowhole is
well signposted and will provide a relaxing and interesting road stop.
Blowholes are formed on the Nullarbor after years of chemical and physical weathering of the
limestone bedrock. As high and low pressure weather systems pass along the Nullarbor, the hole breathes in and out – hence the name
blowhole. Reverse air flows are caused by the pressure differences between the underground caverns and the air pressure above ground. Tracks lead back into
bush campsite clearings. There are no facilities here.
