Situated at a
crossroads of sorts, the Eagle Hussar
bore site sits on the remote
Eagle Highway (Eagle north-south Road) some 66 kilometres north of the
Gunbarrel Highway. On the cusp of both the Gibson and Little Sandy Deserts, this area is isolated, arid yet fascinating.
At this point a "cleared Line" used for geophys survey purposes in the 1970's and 80's crosses the
Eagle Hwy. The
Cleared line is still used to access Walgoobaloo
Rockhole and
Mount Madley, the turnoff to both being some 53 kilometres to the west. Nearby are the overgrown remains of an old
airstrip and a shed.
The old
bore site is marked with a welded
plaque. It indicated that the Eagle et al Hussar
Bore was "spudded" on 28/09/1982 and abandoned 3 months later in December 1982 having reached a depth of 2040 metres.
