Lake Hazlett was named after Sam Hazlett (Born
Mudgee NSW), a bushman, explorer and prospector.
Lake Hazlett Exploration Plan 138 - Michael Terry, 1933."Named after Sam Hazlett who has done a great deal of publicly unnoticed travelling in the Big Paddock" (Sand & Sun Two Gold Hunting Expeditions with camels in the dry lands of Central Australia - by Michael Terry, page 245). Sam Hazlett was a fellow explorer and old friend of Terrys (Sand & Sun p.187) Hazlett did a great deal of exploring out from
Laverton in all directions for most of his life. He retired for a few years because of a spear wound, to return to exploratory work until his death in 1941.
