Change of conditions
Hattah-Kulkyne National Park; (dated notices);
The Hattah Lakes system has been severely degraded due to regulation of the
Murray River, drought and water extraction for agriculture, industry and urban use. There is no longer a link between the site and the river. The Living Murray (TLM) initiative is a river restoration program designed to improve the health of
Murray River ecosystems through targeted environmental watering events.
Environmental water is being pumped into the Hattah Lakes until late 2017, targeting vegetation on higher sections of floodplain away from the
Murray River. The closure of some roads, tracks and visitor sites will progressively occur during this time. Current track closures include: Bitterang, Lockie, & Brockie Tracks, Bugle Ridge Walking Track, Chalka Creek Track, Chalka Creek Boolungal Crossing, Chalka Creek Yerang Crossing, Chalka Creek Rim Crossing, Island Track, Cantala Track, Stockyard Track, Mournpall Lake Loop Walking Track.
