Largest lake in the
Menindee Lakes Scheme, holding about 1/3 of the total 1700 GL storage. With an area of 16.5 square km but a depth of only 5.5 m at best, and the hot desert climate evaporating 3 m annually, the Scheme has struggled to conserve water. Thousands of dead trees around the shore are a testimony to wet seasons and provide both bird habitat and photo opportunities.
Kinchega National park adjoins
Menindee and Cawndilla Lake.
