The site of
Well 49 (Lampa) is on the side of the track. This
well has been reconstructed and water was most recently pumped out in 2017. Whilst water here is usually good most years, water treatment is always recommended. There are plenty of camping areas beneath ti-trees.
Also a short walk trail behind the
well site leads to the grave of Jack Smith. Jack Smith had an unfortunate accident whilst working along the CSR. His horse fell on him, injuring him quite severly. He continued to work, but later he fell from his horse and never fully recovered. He died at
Well 49 on the 23rd May 1939.
