Information

Bowling Green Bay National Park covers 57,900 hectares of coastal and mountainous country. The habitats range from mangroves at sea level to rainforests on the mountain tops. Rugged mountains rise abruptly from the wetlands, saltpans and mangrove forests of the coastal plain. Alligator Creek descends in a series of cascades, deep pools and waterfalls. Mount Elliot reaches a height of 1235 meters, rising out of the surrounding coastal plain and dominating the landscape.

Bowling Green Bay National Park is divided into three sections:
- Mount Elliot section
- Cape Cleveland section
- Bowling Green Bay section
Alligator Creek is 25 kilometers south of Townsville; Cape Cleveland 33 kilometers south of Townsville; Bowling Green Bay 64 kilometers south of Townsville and 26 kilometers north of Ayr. See the DERM Qld site for a more detailed description on directions and access:
http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/bowling-green-bay/about.html

There are several options for camping in Bowling Green Bay National Park. There is one campground with facilities, three camping areas with no facilities and opportunities for remote hiking and camping. All camping activities in the park require a permit and fees apply.

There are a number of walks and extensive hikes in the areas.
-Lower lookout, Alligator Falls (Mount Elliot section)
-Alligator Creek boardwalk (Mount Elliot section)
-Alligator Falls (Mount Elliot section)—17 kilometers return (5–6 hours) Grade: Difficult
-Other extended bushwalking opportunities exist on Mount Elliot and Mount Cleveland for experienced walkers. Again, you need to go to the DERM website for more details.

At Alligator Creek, near the campground, a spacious day-use area has picnic tables, a shelter shed, gas barbecues and toilets. Picnic tables are also located along the creek. Please remove your rubbish.
Fishing in the coastal sections of the park is permitted in some areas but not in others. Please check current zoning maps to find out where fishing is allowed. For restrictions, maps and information see the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park web site.
