Watarrka National Park includes the western end of the
George Gill Range. This scenic landscape of rugged ranges, rockholes and gorges acts as a refuge for many plants and animals. Kings Canyon lies within the Watarrka National Park and is one of the must visit sites in the Red Centre. Located 4-5 hrs drive from
Alice Springs and 3-4 hrs from Ayers Rock/Uluru.
A 6 km loop walk takes you along the north rim through pagoda-like
rock formations and over ancient ripple marks. Descend via steep stairs to cross the creek then up and along the south rim from where the sheer faces of the canyon walls can be seen up close.
Campground, resort/motel, pub, fuel all available 10km from the main site.
See map for specific sites of interest and more information.
