The Douglas River/
Daly River Esplanade Conservation Area, is a complex "esplanade" of land along sections of both Rivers. The most
well known area, and easiest to access, is the Douglas River Esplanade Conservation area. If travelling south from
Adelaide River township, take Dorat Road (Scenic Route and was part of the
old Stuart Highway) and 64 km later, turn right onto the Oolloo Rd. Alternately, you can turn onto Dorat Rd from the Stuart Highway, north of Hayes Creek. Oolloo Rd is then just 5 km from the Stuart Highway. Oolloo Rd will give you access to The Douglas River River Esplanade Conservation Area, Douglas (Tjwaliyn) Hot Springs, and the
Butterfly Gorge Nature Park.
There are nine camping areas within the Conservation area, as
well as a day use area with picnic tables and
thermal pool for swimming. See the staff at the Douglas Daly Park Office and Store if you wish to be allocated a
camp site. Phone (08) 89782479. Fees apply. Best time to visit is the Dry season (May to September) as Wet season rains can force road closures.
