The
Mary River catchment consists of flood plains, billabongs,
woodlands, paper bark and monsoon forests. Visitors can enjoy a number of activities that include 4WD'ing the Wildman and Hardies 4WD tracks, bush walking and photography. The park has abundant wildlife, picnic areas,
boat ramp, fishing, camping, and formed tracks for walking. Swimming is not permitted due to the estuarine (salt water) crocodile that inhabits the waterways and billabongs.
Shady Camp is a very popular spot for fisherman, with
boat ramp,
toilets, and camping. There is also a viewing platform that gives
views of the river and the flood plains.
The Park is located 150 km east of
Darwin, along the Arnhem Highway. Many of the unsealed roads are closed within the park (October to April) due to wet season flooding.
