Basket Swamp is an important wetland of heaths and sedges. It cleans, stores and slowly releases water throughout the year into local creeks that run into the coastal Clarence River system. Basket Swamp National Park was created in January 1999. It covers an area of 2820ha.
This is a woodland park without facilities and would suit self-reliant bushwalkers. It includes Tirnbarra
Lookout and gives access to nearby Basket Swamp Falls and the Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place. Boonoo
State Forest, which has a picnic and
camping area with tables and
toilet, is beside the park and 4 km from the falls.
Access 14 km north-east of
Tenterfield off the Mt Lindesay (Woodenbong) Road (partly unsealed).
