Salmon Gums is a small farming town located 106km north of
Esperance on the
Coolgardie-
Esperance Hwy and is about mid-way between the two towns within the wheatbelt. Named in 1912 and gazetted in 1925 it was built to support the construction of the railway. Soldier settlers after WW1 where the first to initially take up farming land here however due to low soil fertility and low rainfall these were not successful. Due to the introduction of modern soil improvement processes however, the area now produces wheat, sheep and cattle. Residential
population about 160.
