Point Hood overlooks the Doubtful Islands
Nature Reserve. Very scenic and accessible. A 4x4 track circles the point offering
views from all vantages. The track is a mix of
rock,
limestone and sand. The track is easily negotiated when taken slowly.
Accessing the Point Hood track is a continuation on from the Doubtful Island Rd (track) and is via sandy tracks. Vegetation is thick and may scratch. There are number of beaches on the northern side of Point Hood great for camping or a BBQ. There are no facilities.
The track into this area which starts at the
intersection of the
Gordon Inlet Rd and Doubtful Island Rd can be quite difficult to drive particularly after rain as there are large wheel ruts and corrugations. In the dry, its a slow bumpy ride. We let our tyres down at the start of the track. The track then settles into an undulating narrow sand track. There are numerous tracks leading off with
home grown directions signs to help you. The GPS had all the tracks noted.
