The
Granite Skywalk is a suspended walkway ontop of
Castle Rock and is a tourist attraction. To reach the
Granite Skywalk, you will need to hike 2.2km along a Class 5 trail with a steep incline from the
Castle Rock picnic area (4.4km return). The total hike will generally take 2 hours. The bush trail leads through thick forest, which has blooms of
wildflowers in spring and is very pretty, however good fitness and sure-footedness is required. Once reaching the top of the bush trail you'll arrive at Balancing
Rock. From here the only way to get onto the Skywalk is to pull yourself up and over the boulders (using pegs & holds bolted into the
granite) until you reach the base of the steel ladder, which you ascend for 6m until reaching the suspended walkway that winds around the top of
Castle Rock. Whilst its single file to ascend or descend the ladder, the Skywalk can accommodate a few groups of people at once - you will want to allow time to take in the spectacular
views all the way over
farm and bushland all the way to the Southern Ocean at
Albany. This walk is popular with families during school holiday periods.
Note a day use fee is charged to park in the National Park.
