Mandurah is the 2nd largest city in WA. The city is known for its protected waterways, beaches and boating and fishing activities. With improved freeway and rail transport
services in the last decade, Mandurah has grown from an isolated holiday community to a major regional city with many people choosing to commute to work in the
Perth CBD. Mandurah has also become a popular lifestyle alternative for
Perth retirees. A series of canals with modern housing is the "new" Mandurah along the estuary.
Tourists enjoy the water sports, with Mandurah being a major fishing and crabbing area. The Blue Crabfest is an annual festival held in March.
Dolphins and whales frequent the city annually and tours are popular. In December, the canal areas in Mandurah show their Christmas lights and special boat cruises are often promoted as a result.
Two zoos lie within the outskirts of the city, as
well as a miniature village, a tourist railway and a national park.
