HISTORY: Established in 1918 by the government of Western Australia, The Moore River Native Settlement was where Aboriginal children of all ages from all over the State were placed by parents, child welfare authorities or the Children's Court. In 1951, the government transferred management to the Methodist Overseas Mission who opened Mogumber on the same site which operated from 1951 through to 1974. In the 1970s, some children were moved from Mogumber to houses in
Perth.
