The Angas Hills are a low rugged range of hills that commence at the
Gary Junction Road and stretch 15 kilometres to the north east. The southern reaches are adjacent to
Mount Webb. The northern reaches comprise laterite breakaways and some
sandstone cliffs. This is Pintupi country and the area of the ranges near
Mount Webb is where the last of the Pintupi emerged from
the desert in 1984. Two members of the group,
young men, were found by members of the
Kiwirrkurra community near a
well and tank (See Mt Webb
Water Supply on EO
Places). This contact led to the whole family group being located and bought in to
Kiwirrkurra. The event received huge press coverage around the world.
12 months later, several members of the group, dissatisfied with town life, returned to their country. They were last seen at Labbi Labbi
Rockhole by the historian Dick Kimber who assisted in returning them to country.
Please respect these special areas to the
KIWIRRKURRA Traditional owners and do not visit, climb, or drive on tracks leading off the main road.
