This is a bird research and education facility, dedicated to promoting knowledge and understanding of the amazing birdlife of this region. We’re affiliated with BirdLife Australia however we are financially independent and raise the revenue we need to operate by running tours, accommodation, camping and educational courses, along with sales in our
shop. You can support us by coming for a visit or donating via BirdLife (mention BBO in the comments). The friendly team out at the observatory is made up of two wardens (year-round), two assistant wardens (February-October), and one or two
campground hosts (monthly, March-October).The Clive Minton Discovery Centre is open 8am to 4pm every day of the week, we also offer Camping, Tours and Accommodation. Please feel free to come past outside of opening hours and enjoy a walk around the grounds or time in our shade house. However please note that if Crab Creek Road is closed due to flooding there is no access to the observatory. There are NO PETS and NO DRONES permitted at the observatory. We are approximately 10 km out of
Broome along the
Broome Highway. You will pass the
Cape Leveque turnoff on your left and continue for approximately 1.5 km where you will see Crab Creek Road on your right. There is a blue sign for Crab Creek Road and the Observatory at this turn-off. The road begins as bitumen and turns into red dirt. We recommend 40 minutes for the total trip.
