CLOSING INDEFINITELY 1ST NOV 2021
Kooljaman resort is about 220 km north of
Broome at
Cape Leveque. To get there, you'll across a 88km section of what many people regard as one of the roughest sandy/dirt roads in Australia. Providing you take your time and lower your tyre pressures, the road is not too taxing, but it is very rough in
places so be warned.
Kooljaman is on Aboriginal land and is owned by the local Aboriginal community, though mostly staffed by white folk.
Well appointed cabins and safari tents are available along with many
camp sites. Some of the
camp sites have private grass huts on them, with water and a table / chairs provided. These are pleasant sites, but are very sandy and are often buffeted by winds.
Staying at Kooljaman is not cheap, but it is worth the cost and effort for a couple of days. The highlight for many is a low tide walk right around the Cape.
The rock formations are simply fabulous. CLOSING 1ST NOV 2021 INDEFINITELY. BOOKINGS ARE BEING REFUNDED. NO NEW BOOKINGS.
Other
places to visit while in the area include
Beagle Bay (for the church),
Middle Lagoon (a lovely
camp spot with crystal clear water for swimming and snorkelling), One Arm Point (Aboriginal Community) and Lombardina (Aboriginal Community with
bakery and Trocus
Shell jewellery making), as
well as
Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. Alternative accommodation and camping is now available from Divers Creek
Campground provided by
Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm.
