Green Track (scenic walk)
Grade: easy/moderate 5.5 km (3 hr loop)
This is a circuit track that visits all three major lookouts. It links with other tracks and can be accessed from numerous
places around the park.
The Green Track is a great way to familiarise yourself with the dramatic beauty of Bungonia without too much strenuous activity.
White Track
To Mount Ayre — Grade: easy 1.5 km (I hr return)
From David
Reid Car Park follow the trail on a gentle climb to Mt Ayre
lookout point to view the Shoalhaven
Gorge 300 m below.
White Track
From Mount Ayre to
Shoalhaven River Grade: strenuous 1.5 km (3 hr return)
The track should not be attempted by inexperienced hikers. After descending along an easterly ridge, the track then descends very steeply to
the junction of the Bungonia Creek and the
Shoalhaven River.
Red Track
Grade: strenuous (danger - falling rocks) 3.8 km (5 hr loop)
This track is not suitable for
young children or people with respiratory or heart problems. Start at the William
Mitchell Car Park and walk uphill before commencing the steep descent into the Bungonia Creek
Gorge.
The Slot Canyon, a spectacular
limestone formation through which Bungonia Creek flows, is a feature of this walk. The creek may rise suddenly and block the canyon. The section east along Bungonia Creek is not marked. The route involves strenyous climbing over and around very large boulders. Listen for sirens from the quarry above as
rock falls may occur during blasting. Continue downstream one kilometre to the steep ascent track south from the creek to return to David
Reid Car Park.
