Lake Apex is located on what was known as Cleary's Swamp. In 1975 the area was developed by the Gatton Apex Club as a recreational parkland.
Parkland facilities include public BBQs, covered picnic tables, a playground,
toilets, skatepark, extensive grassed parkland, dog-friendly walking tracks, a bird hide, permanent exercise equipment and is
home to the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre. The Centre which opened in 2009, is
home to the Lockyer Valley
Visitor Information Centre, Library,
Art Gallery, Queensland Transport Museum and onsite cafe and function rooms. The parklands also host a weekly Park Run every Saturday morning, and the Lights on the
Hill Trucking Memorial
sandstone monument is located at the top of the park off Denis Minson Drive.
If it a nature experience you are looking for then spend some time in the bird hide or take a walk around Lake Apex and you may see some of the 153 species of birds that have been recorded at Lakes Apex and Freeman.
