This
heritage trail, provides a link between
Gordonvale and
Greenpatch Campground. Along the trail you will find interpretive signs that provide information about the rich cultural, social and built history of this area. This
heritage trail is named after Malanbarra Elder Bungara, also known as Darby Greenwood or Darby Russ. Born around 1890 in the Goldsborough area, Bungara was fostered by Mr and Mrs Ned Russ as an initiated 14 year old, and grew up with them in the area known as Darby's
Hill on the old Greenwood's
Farm. Here he was employed as a house boy by the Greenwoods.Bungara remained at Greenwood's
Farm for about 14 years, working and raising his growing family. He was
well known around
Gordonvale, particularly for working the horse drawn plough. He would later move to Griffin's
Farm near the
intersection of the Bruce Highway with the north side of the Mulgrave River, before moving in with his daughter Alice in his senior years. Highly respected in the community, he passed in 1965. Many of his descendants still live in the district. Most of all, Bungara was a proud Yidinji man.
