In South Australia’s Upper Murray Region, the town of Cadell is named after Captain Francis Cadell, who was the navigator on Charles Sturt’s successful exploration of the mighty Murray.
At the centre of a rich, citrus growing area, Cadell has a
population of less than 100 which is more than doubled if you add in the number of inmates at the local, low security Training Centre. Cadell Training is located approximately 180 km north-east of
Adelaide and is situated on the River Murray 10 km from
Morgan.
Cadell accommodates up to 140 low security male prisoners in various styles of accommodation including a cellblock, cottages and a dormitory. Cadell Training Centre does not have a secure parameter fence and prisoners are at Cadell under their own trust.
