Spalding is located in the Southern
Flinders Ranges and is a small rural town with 2 petrol stations, a
supermarket and a pub called the Spalding Hotel. The pub is definitely worth a visit, either for lunch or for an overnight stay. Jeff and Janet have bought the pub and are the friendliest couple of publicans we have met. You get introduced to every local who comes in for a drink, and are made very welcome. The rooms are comfortable, each one decorated individually and with an eye for detail, and heaters for those cooler mornings. There is a shared bathroom and the room rate includes breakfast, where you help yourself to toast, coffee/tea and cereal. The meals are also excellent, with the dining room open from 6-8pm. We had prawn curry for lunch, cooked by Jeff and very tasty, and the chicken schnitzel for dinner sold out in about half an hour, with the chips and hot vegie bain-marie being cleaned up as
well. You could also
camp out the back if you didn't want to stay in the pub, as there is a large grassed area.
