Hugh Proby was the third son of the Earl of Carysfort and he had brought a sizeable amount of wealth with him from Scotland. He had come to purchase land and run sheep and cattle in the new lands to the north of
Quorn. Subsequently, the station, one of the largest in the district was called
Kanyaka. Hugh Proby was only 24 years old when he died and
Kanyaka Ruins are still very much visible today.
