This short forest to waterfall walk is a 1.3km return Grade 3 hike.
Halls Falls lies on the
Groom River and rops from a hand-made nineteenth century weir located upstream from the waterfall. In summer, this is the highlight of the area with lots of water flowing over the weir and some plunge pools below which make for delightful all day relaxing. The weir remains from a time when Chinese tin miners were working the area. The mainly flat track passes above and below
Halls Falls and its charming
rock pools. The only steep section is the brief descent to the base of the falls (and then back up). Above the falls, the track branches off to a number of sites via sidetracks along the
Groom River and through the nearby forest. Be sure to take the track up to the weir. This is one of the few
places where a tourist waterfall makes for a place to spend the day in the water, not viewing from a
lookout. So pack your towel and spend a few hours here - ideal on a hot summer's day. Walk to
Lookout 968m - steps down to
rock pools at bottom of falls
Walk to Weir: 1 hour return (2km). Easy to moderate grade.
