Visitors can book on a guided tour of the
Newdegate Cave open daily (except Christmas Day). Fees apply.
Cave tour times vary at different times of the year, so
check the times based on the date you intend to visit. You’ll need to arrive at the
Visitor Centre 45 minutes prior to your allocated tour time to pay and collect your
cave tour ticket. After
check-in there is a further 5km drive and then a 200m walk to reach the
cave entrance where the tour begins.
Cave tour pricing includes access to the
thermal pool.
The pool is 25m plus a wading
pool. The
thermal pool bottom was originally pebble lined allowing the spring to bubble up naturally from below each night. It refilled with natural springwater. However, in 1983 works were undertaken to construct a healthier and more hygienic system. The current system uses the latest technology and
pool water treatment. The warm water is extracted from the natural spring beneath
the pool via submersible pump, the water passes through a filter, and then through the UV disinfection system, travelling through maze of pipework and filters before being returned to
the pool.
The pool is pleasant for swimming even on a cold day. Access to
the pool is through the
visitor centre. The fees for your entry to the
cave tour covers entry to
the pool. Otherwise you can just pay a smaller fee for access to
the pool. There is no camping in this area. The nearest camping is at
Cockle Creek. The facility is a full day use area with flush
toilets, hot water showers, grassy grounds, sheltered bbq area for picnics etc. There are a couple of short easy walks from
the pool too.
