Eight Mile Community Aboriginal Corporation is situated 22 kilometres east of
Fitzroy Crossing on the Great Northern Highway. Originally Gooniyandi elder Jock Shandly asked for land from the station.The community is known as ‘Joy Springs’; however its registered name with the Office of the Registrar for Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) is ‘Eight Mile Community Aboriginal Corporation’. The actual spring is called Juwardi Ngardi.The community has developed to support the growing
population.
Infrastructure and facilities on the community include: corporation office, community workshop, Multi-purpose facility to cater for Playgroup, Homemaker and Sewing
services, sports oval, basketball court, under cover meeting area, 15 houses and two
shelter dwellings for emergency accommodation.
