Hungerford is located on the Queensland/New South Wales border and was named after pioneer pastoralist Thomas Hungerford. The Royal Mail Hotel was built in 1873 and is still in use today. The Royal Mail (Pub) was originally a staging post for Cobb & Co.
Currawinya National Park is only a few kilometres away, following the old Cobb & Co route. This is an area of prolific birdlife, with over 200 species. Hungerford holds a bi-annual field day. Accommodation is available at the Caravan Park in Hungerford.
The town will be crossed by the paths of totality of the solar eclipses of July 22nd 2028 and November 25th 2030. It is a very rare event for a location to have these eclipses less than 2.5 years apart.
