The
Red Banks Conservation Park is 10km from
Burra and offers a
day use area,
walking tracks and
free camping in the tranquil Mallee
Campground. Please note this is a small
camp.ground that can not be reserved in advance.
The spacious
camping area is mostly flat on red dirt and some are shaded by trees. Please be aware that campfires are not permitted and dogs are not allowed. There is a clean, drop
toilet at the
campground. There is currently no water supply available at the visitor area or at the
camp.ground, so please bring your own. Creeks and waterholes should not be relied upon for safe drinking water.
Mobile phone coverage can be patchy and unreliable in this park, especially if you are in low-lying areas.
To access the red coloured
cliff walls, walk or drive to the
day use area where you can enjoy a 5km loop walk. If walking from the
camp, the "Landscapes of Change" loop track will take approximately 1.5hrs on
well marked tracks. Try to time your visit for a sunset walk to enjoy the most vibrant colours bouncing off
the rock walls. Take a headlight for the return walk in the dark.
