Plenty of level, open ground offers good campsites with
views to Mount Maria and the surrounding valleys, as
well as the old farmhouse. Wallabies and kangaroos will join you at dusk and dawn, grazing in the open areas.
Frenchs
Farm provide sheltered campsites that are a good option in wild weather and is an excellent base for exploring McRaes Isthmus – a narrow neck of sand with sweeping beaches on either side. The
farm house is a day use shelter only.
Access is via a 3 hour walk from
Darlington, where the ferry service operates.
Gas stoves and barbecues are required for cooking as fires are not permitted.
All water on Maria Island is not potable and treatment is required, use purification tablets or boil water for at least one minute before use. A limited supply of non-treated tank water is available. Frequent dry weather and high seasonal demand make water a precious resource. Please use it with care.
There is no rubbish tip and no rubbish collection service on the island. Please take all your rubbish with you when you leave.
