End of Beach Road, walking access to Estuary Beach and
Livingstone’s Island Nature Walk. Public amenities and tables.
Discovery Bay Estuary Beach offers a unique beach experience for visitors – it’s by no means an ordinary beach. This is where the Southern Ocean and the
Glenelg River meet, creating a one-of-a-kind natural wonder.
One side of
the beach has a slow, tranquil river, while the other end has roaring waves - a sight worth seeing.
The beach itself is also
home to an oxbow lake. When the river is closed, it’s safe enough to walk across its mouth. But when it’s open, visitors will need a boat to cross the estuary safely.
Though
Discovery Bay Estuary Beach is a marvellous attraction, visitors should avoid swimming at all costs because it’s considered hazardous due to the rips on
the beach.
Fishing is a popular activity along the river mouth. Otherwise, going for a stroll is a great way to enjoy this area.
Take note that
Discovery Bay Estuary Beach is best admired from the land. Surf Life Saving Australia does not provide patrolling
services here.
