Walter
Hill Range, on your left as you drive from
Tully towards
El Arish, was named in 1873 by George Dalrymple ( the explorer who gave most
places up this way their name) With Dalrymple on this 1873 expedition was Walter
Hill, the Curator of
Brisbane's Botanic Garden, and a visionary who - like Dalrymple - could see the north become a tropical agricultural centre.
Hill gave us our first sugar, the mango, the jacaranda, etc etc.
