Information

The sweeping arc of Herald Bight is usually protected from the prevailing south-westerly winds. At the end of a rough, sandy track, this was the location of a pearling camp in the late 1880's and old pearlshells can still be seen in the area. More recently a small fish canning factory and then a fish freezer preserved fish for market. The freezer closed in 1947.The informal campsite has a toilet. Camping fees apply but no bookings. There is no drinking water so ensure you bring enough for your stay.Small boats can be launched from the beach although and vehicle access is through very soft sand so is 4WD only. Kayaking, swimming fishing is suitable here. No dogs. No water.
