This site is one of many designated camping areas in
Dirk Hartog Island National Park. Online bookings required. No fires permitted at any campsites in the national park. There is no
toilet.
The site is nicely setup at water level on a flat firm base of sand near the rocky corner of the bay offering some shelter if required and a nice aspect.
This site is
well positioned on the island if you are looking for a base
camp to spend a few days to explore the island. The
Cape Inscription track heads north of here, or you can pick up the inland track to reach Quiorn Head,
Mystery Bay,
The Block etc quite easily.
For details details on how to get to DHI, and fees,
check Island Life/Getting Here in the website menu or contact the Eco Lodge (details above).
Louisa Bay is a single site which can accomodate a max of 4 vehicles. It is one of the most beautiful campsites on the east coast of the island and ideal for guests with small children as the water has a shallow entry.
Boats can access
the beach in this bay with coral communities about 200m from shore. While cabbage corals dominate, there are also staghorns and massive pocillopora and pink pocillopora species. Reef fish include
coral trout, blue-lined emperor, scribbled angelfish and the fully protected potato cod.
Estimated driving time from
Cape Ransonnet (
DHI barge landing site) to
Louisa Bay is 2 hours
