The main beach (NT 515) begins on the eastern side of White Point and runs initially northeast for 4.5 km, before gradually curving round at the point to finally face due east (Fig. 5.65). The first 2 km of beach are free of reef and receive sufficient wave energy to maintain a low tide bar cut by rips every 100 m during higher wave conditions. Three hundred metre wide fringing reef dominates the rest of
the beach all the way to the eastern tip.
The beach is moderately steep and for the most part backed by a 50-100 m wide strip of grassy beach ridges, then densely vegetated bedrock, with occasional spurs of bedrock crossing
the beach and forming small reefs.
