The Cutta Cutta caves are a
limestone cave system that are an unusual feature in a sub tropical Australia. Public access to
the caves are only available via a tour which must be booked with Nitmiluk Tours.
Cave tour bookings can be made online or at the
visitor centre on site.
In 1997 this area was handed to the Northern Teritory
Reserves Board (now Parks and Wildlife) and
cave tours began shortly after. Tradition owners called the area Jawoyn but it was named Smith's
Cave by the early stockmen who came across it in 1900, and during WW2 the servicemen visiting the area called it 16 Mile
Cave. In 1979 the area was renamed
Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park.
