The Tabletop Range is a
sandstone plateau that is
Litchfield National Park’s most distinctive feature. The range has weathered and eroded for millenia to form deep gorges that protect ancient rainforest, into which spring waters flow over myriad waterfalls. The diversity of habitats formed provide for a wide range of flora and fauna. Some of it, such as the blue cycad, Cycas calcicola, is endemic to the park and close surrounds.Savanna woodland stretches across the plateau like an African landscape. The falls and pools that are the main highlights for visitors lie below the range but a long distance walking track called the Tabletop Track lets you experience the remote wilderness of the Top End along the top of the plateau range. This is a circuit loop that has a number of access on/off points at the main falls.
