Information
The Aroona Hut was built in 1925 as an outstation for Eddie Pumpa. It consisted of a 4 roomed dwelling with a stone fire-place and a verandah running along three sides. The kitchen and washroom were enclosed at separate ends of the back verandah. The house is typical pug and pine construction. Slabs of native pine from this area were cut and errected vertically side by side. Chicken wire was nailed to this framework and mud (or pug) was flushed up to fill the gaps. The floor was rammed earth and the roof was corrugated galvanised iron sheets.
The famous Australian painter Hans Heysen stayed here at Aroona in 1927 and began the first of many sketches and paintings.
